Supes Approved Sharing Agreement

Outgoing Mahaska County Supervisor Henry “Willie” Van Weelden saw one last piece of business pass under his watch. The supervisors met in special session Thursday afternoon to consider a 28E agreement with Keokuk County for the services of an assistant county attorney.

As the board commenced discussion on the agreement current Mahaska County Attorney James Blomgren addressed the board. Blomgren did not seek re-election and will be replaced on Tuesday by Andrew J. Ritland.

“Since 2015 Keokuk and Washington County have shared an assistant attorney,” said Blomgren. “The person in the position (Chauncey Moulding) was elected as county attorney in Jefferson County. Washington is looking to go to a full time assistant. I believe this will be a good move for both of us.”

Incoming Keokuk County Attorney Amber Thompson echoed Blomgren’s sentiments.
