Supervisors Approve Radio Project Funding

After several months of discussion, questioning, and two requests for proposals, the Mahaska County Board of Supervisors have approved funding for the county emergency communications radio project. That decision came as the board met for the first time in 2019. The meeting was also the first for newly elected supervisors Steve Wanders and Steve Parker although Wanders has been serving the unexpired term of Mark Doland.

Prior to the start of the meeting Mahaska County department heads who were relected were sworn in by District Court Judge Rose Ann Mefford. They included Wanders and Parker; recorder Diane Upton Crookham; treasurer Connie Van Polen and county attorney Andrew Ritland.

Supervisors held a pubic hearing to approved the issuance of $5.5 million in General Obligation Bonds. No public spoke on the matter and county auditor Sue Brown said no written comments had been received. Board chair Mark Groenendyk told those gathered that the issuance cannot exceed the $5.5 million.
