Spring Festival 2018 Success

Weather threatened to toss a wet blanket on the 2018 New Sharon Spring Festival. Planners had put into place contingency plans.

They didn’t need them. Mobile devices were constantly checking weather web sites in order to plan to move activities inside.

Friday night’s coronation of festival royalty went off without a hitch. The crowning of the queen and announcement of citizen of the year were emotional events.

2017 queen Rachel Freeborn crowned Chrissy Northcutt, who will be a senior at North Mahaska High School. As part of the selection process each entrant had to write an essay explaining someone who had a positive impact on their life.

Northcutt read her essay, which she gave all the credit to her friend Ali Edmundson. She said, “Many times you pick out someone like a teacher, parent, grandparent or other adult. For me it is Ali Edmundson.”

Northcutt went on to cite a number of ways Edmundson impacted her life. From helping with homework, encouraging her to return to band, to National Honor Society and being there when Northcutt needed to talk.

“I am so happy for her,” said Edmundson following the coronation. “She is a great friend and a great person. She deserves this honor.”
