Sale of Senior Center Complete

The former New Sharon Senior Center will change hands from a city-owned facility to a privately owned dance studio. The contract was approved Wednesday at the regular council meeting.

Madison Mitchell, who has operated a dance studio and been paying rent on the facility for the past 13 months, approached the city about the purchase. During Wednesday’s public hearing prior to the sale, she told councilors that she has 52 students including a number from Montezuma and Oskaloosa. She has recently begun an adult fitness class at the studio with attendees from Lynnville, Montezuma, and other areas.

“We are happy with how we are doing as we are bringing business into New Sharon,” added Mitchell.

No other comments were received during the hearing. Terms of the contract include a sale price of $30,000, which will be paid in monthly installments of $200.20.
