Ritenour Avoids Murder Conviction

Alicia Ritenour

OSKALOOSA — An Oskaloosa woman will spend a half-century in prison, but avoided a life sentence on Thursday. Alicia Ritenour accepted a plea deal just days before she was to go to trial on charges of killing her 17-month-old daughter in 2015.

Ritenour had a previous conviction overturned and was awaiting a new trial in Mount Pleasant before a deal was completed this week. According to the agreement obtained by The Sun, Ritenour pled guilty to child endangerment causing death, a Class B felony. She appeared before Eighth Judicial Court Judge Myron Gookin, who sentenced her to 50 years in prison, with credit for time served. She was also ordered to pay $150,000 to the estate of her daughter Ava.
