Osky Trio Arrested in Shafer Death

ES MOINES — An Oskaloosa trio including a husband and wife has been arrested and placed in jail on charges resulting in the death of 24-year-old Ashley Shafer. Shafer’s body was pulled from the South Skunk River on Aug. 6 following a two-day search.

Cody Vancenbrock, 27, of Oskaloosa faces the most serious charges. According to the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation, Vancenbrock has been charged with one count each of Involuntary Manslaughter (Class D Felony), Delivery of a Controlled Substance (Class D Felony), Abuse of a Corpse (Class D Felony), and Sponsoring a Drug House (Aggravated Misdemeanor).

Also arrested on Aug. 20 were a husband and wife, 28-year-old Nicholas Kelly and 34-year-old Holly Kelly. Nicholas Kelly has been charged with one count each of Abuse of a Corpse (Class D Felony) and Sponsoring a Drug House (Aggravated Misdemeanor). Holly Kelly has been charged with one count of Aiding and Abetting – Abuse of a Corpse (Class D Felony).
