Oskaloosa fire officials are investigating a fire that damaged an Oskaloosa business Friday night.

The fire caused the shutdown and evacuation of Oskaloosa Food Products, and evacuation of a number of homes in the area. They were out of their homes for more than two hours.

Oskaloosa Fire Department, Oskaloosa Police, Mahaska Health Partnership ambulance and Mahaska County Sheriff’s answered the call about 8 p.m. for a fire at 1107 S. 7th Street Friday. When responders arrived plumbs of black smoke was rolling west and east from the structure, which once housed Superior Ideal Manufacturing. The building had more than two-dozen vehicles sitting around the north side of the building and when firefighters were inside found the building loaded with more cars sitting bumper-to-bumper.
