NS Council Approves Budget Amendment, Repairs

New Sharon City Council held a public hearing May 16 to approve a budget amendment to the 2018 fiscal year budget.

The hearing and approval of the amendment is an annual routine adjustment to account for changes in revenue and expenses. The approval does not affect any tax rates, but is only a legal accounting formality.

Councilors faced a routine agenda led by mayor pro tem Larry Applegate. Mayor Dustin Hite was ill and unable to attend the meeting. Also out of town was councilor Terry Hudson. Naki Bucklin attended the meeting to discuss a building permit for a guest house on a property he owns at 505 S. Pine Street. He said he has no plans for the property to be a two-residence property, but the guesthouse will be used while he is remodeling the present house.

It was noted that city ordinance states that only one residence is allowed on a 60-feet by 120-feet lot. Bucklin’s lot is 128 by 217. It was determined if the guesthouse was placed on a separate area from the original house it could meet all the requirements. The public hearing on the building permit will be held on June 6 at 6 p.m. Persons with an interest in the issue will have the opportunity to speak at that time. There will also be a public hearing on wastewater improvements.
