North Mahaska Wrestling Season Ends at State

North Mahaska’s wrestling season came to an end Friday at the state wrestling tournament. The ending is not what the team hoped for, but all three competed well. Jarrett Stodghill at 145 pounds and Luke Groves at 170 lost in the first round, but scored pins in the first round of consolations to advance. They each were defeated on Friday and eliminated from the podium. Freshman Michael DeJong lost twice on Thursday’s opening day.

“We got two through and we are happy,” said North Mahaska coach Ryan Groom. “Mike put himself in a position to win both matches, but just couldn’t finish. Jarrett had a light go off in his head and when that happens he does well. I think Luke kind of fed off that and put him into tomorrow’s action.”

In every match on Thursday, it was the North Mahaska wrestler making the first move. The move did not always produce the desired result, but showed they came to state to win.
