North Mahaska Rips Monte, 13-0

NEW SHARON – North Mahaska scored early and often taking advantage of every opportunity in a 13-0 route of South Iowa Cedar League foe Montezuma in baseball action June 26. The host Warhawks scored six runs on the first inning, added five in the third and capped it off with the winner in the bottom of the fourth.

North Mahaska batted around the lineup twice in the game with 10 batters in the first inning and 11 in the third. The Warhawks pounded put 12 hits in the game, took advantage of three Montezuma errors, six walks and a hit batsman.

The offense certainly carried the load, but it was defense in the top of the first that set the tone. Monte’s lead off batter Brayden Arendt singled, but Nm hurler Blake Readshaw picked him off before he threw another pitch. Cole Watts was hit by pitch and catcher Dylan Klinker eliminated him on a steal attempt at second.
