North Mahaska Girls to Regional Final

NM celebrates its 3-1 victory over Lynnville-Sully.

The last time North Mahaska’s softball team walked onto the field at Lynnville-Sully a series of miscues led to a 7-5 loss to the host Hawks. It was the first game of the season. Two weeks ago NM beat the Hawks 6-3. Friday’s Region 5 game was to see who would play for the right to play in the state tournament. North Mahaska hit the ball hard and came away with a 3-1 victory.

The first inning was fairly uneventful then in the top of the second Emma Deucore earned a leadoff walk from Lynnville-Sully’s Denali Conover. Hayley Pinkerton singled and Deucore came around to score on a groundout by Mallory Klinker. In the top of the fourth NM got it going again with two outs. Pinkerton singled, Kobi Evans walked then Klinker singled. Paige Layman reached on a fielder’s choice and Pinkerton scored.

NM could have done more damage, but left the bases loaded. They did the same in the fifth. The Warhawks would put up an insurance run in the seventh using another leadoff walk to Maddie McKay. Deucore drove in McKay on a single.
