ALBIA – North Mahaska coach Alicia Arkema learned a little bit more about her volleyball team this past Tuesday. Her Warhawks opened the season with four matches at Albia winning three of four contests.

They topped Moravia, 21-11, 21-17 and Seymour 21-9, 21-15 before facing host Albia. The hosts won 21-10, 21-14 sending the Warhawks into a match with Southeast Warren. North Mahaska battled back from a 21-11 setback to win 21-12, 15-11.

“We did a lot of great things tonight,” said Arkema after the three-set match. “To go 3-1 to start the season is a great way to go.”

North Mahaska got the day started quickly against Moravia. The Warhawks were successful on 39-of-41 serves with six aces. They collected 20 kills on 29 attempts. Against Seymour serving allowed NM to pick up another five aces on 39-for-42 serving. They netted 16 kills against Seymour.

Albia was able to make more plays on the Warhawks to earn the victory. The Lady Dees hit six aces to just two for North Mahaska. North Mahaska earned five more kills than Albia finishing with 15.

“We made little mistakes and didn’t focus in against Albia,” said Arkema.
