North Mahaska had a tough week on the softball diamond. They played a pair of makeup games and then faced Montezuma in a regular season conference contest. They fell to Colfax-Mingo 9-5, and upended HLV 2-0.

Both of the latter games were played at Colfax-Mingo. Wednesday they fell to Monte 6-4. At Montezuma, the Bravettes scored five times in the bottom of the second inning. North Mahaska scored a single run in the fourth and three in the fifth.

NM’s Paige Layman singled with two out in the sixth and reached second base, and Tessa Fuller doubled in the seventh, but the Warhawks could not move either one home.

“It took us a long time to got to the pitcher,” said a frustrated Chris Sampson. “We had some mental errors on defense and that allowed them to get ahead.”

Fuller hit a double and a single with one RBI. Maddie McKay and Hayley Pinkerton each doubled. Zoe Deucore, Kobi Evans, Paige Layman and Maci DeJong each singled.
