Nelson Presents on National Forum

North Mahaska second grade teacher Jamie Nelson works with students on reading literacy. Nelson recently spoke at a national conference in San Antonio on research she conducted on literacy and teaching.

How does a teacher of 20 second grade students find her way to present before thousands of college professors? With one word – passion.

Jamie Nelson has a passion for literacy and ensuring her students receive her best. It is that passion that led her to compete her Masters program and do a self-study of her practice. She completed her program in June of 2016 and was encouraged to submit her research paper for presentation at the American Education Research Association. She was notified in the fall that she was selected to present at the national forum, which she did in San Antonio on April 27.
