DES MOINES – New Sharon native Nellie Meinders of New Sharon was honored for a lifetime of work at the Iowa Angus Open Show at the Iowa State Fair. This award is only handed out once a year to a person or family that put hard work and dedication in the Angus breed.

Meinders has lived and been involved with farming her whole life in New Sharon. She married Carleton Meinders in 1954 and had three children, Dorothy, Carleton Jr. and Carol. Meinders has one grandson, Clayton, who helps Carleton on the family farm operation known as Double C Stock Farm. Carleton, who passed in 2010, began the farm in 1943 and has run consistently since then.
