Late Gamble Lifts Albia, 8-7

Coaches make decisions throughout the game that they hope will be best for their team. Sometimes they are the hero, the other times a topic of water cooler conversation. Eddyville- Blakesburg-Fremont coach Brian Koehler, at least this week, will be the latter after Albia rallied for an 8-7 win.

The EBF Rockets were hosting Albia in the annual homecoming game and was clinging to a 7-0 lead in the fourth quarter. The Rockets had a fourth-andgoal at the 9-yard line when Koehler decided to go for a 26-yrad field goal. Albia jumped offsides and moved the ball closer to the end zone. Koehler and his staff decided to go for the touchdown. Trey Moore was stopped short and Albia took over.

Later in the period Albia took over on its own 33-yard line and the Blue Demons were one score away from its first win of the season. Albia’s Cade Crall, who eluded Rocket defenders most of the night took the game into his own hands. The senior quarterback completed six of his final seven passes during a 67-yard march down the field. The killer was a 3-yard aerial to Dawson Hemson for the score. There was no doubt what the Albia coaching staff would do and Trent Garver went in for the 2-point conversion, ultimately giving the Blue Demons its first win.
