Judicial Appointment Tops Eggs & Issues

It did not take long for the first question from the crowd to begin discussions at the Feb. 23 Eggs & Issues at Smokey Row in Oskaloosa. Iowa House Representatives Holly Brink (District 80) and Dustin Hite (District 79) along with senator Ken Roozeboom fielded questions during the hour-long session.

Better than half of the session dealt with representatives talking why hey favor making changes to the selection process for judges. Hite, who chairs the judicial committee, explained the process of judge nomination selection for district and supreme court.

“We have a state nominating commission for the supreme court and court of appeals, we have district nominating commissions for all of the district court judges, and we have magistrate nominating commissions in each county, said Hite, who is an attorney in Oskaloosa.“ We will not make changes to the magistrate nominating commissions.”
