Fremont Man Injured in Tractor-Semi Crash

Mahaska County Sheriff has been on the scene of a collision between a farm tractor and tractor-trailer, which occurred Tuesday morning at 3033 Iowa Highway 23. Bruce Caves of Fremont was injured in the collision.

FREMONT – Fremont city worker Bruce Caves was injured and Iowa Highway 23 was closed for nearly four hours Tuesday due to a collision between a tractor-trailer and a farm tractor about 2 miles west of Fremont.

Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office and Cedar Township Fire Department were on the scene and assisted by Mahaska Ambulance. Caves, 58, was operating a city-owned 2016 Case IH tractor when a 2015 Freightliner driven by 54-year old Douglas Young of Ottumwa struck him from behind. Caves was transported to Mahaska Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The collision occurred at 3033 Iowa Highway 23 and closed the road, which opened to traffic just before 1 p.m. Tuesday.
