Fast Start Lifts NM Girls

North Mahaska likes to get off to a quick start in its basketball games. When they do the girls are hard to stop. Iowa Valley became the latest victim. North Mahaska outscored the visiting Tigers 14-4 in the opening period on its way to a 60-31 South Iowa Cedar League cross-division game.

North Mahaska spread the scoring around as six players scored the first 14 points. It was Lyddia Stodghill’s trey with 50 seconds left in the first period that began the barrage from outside. Her shot gave the Warhawks a 14-3 edge. Then as the second period began Kassidi Steel sandwiched Cheyenne Shaw’s 3-pointer and layup with two of her own as they quickly were up 28-6.
