EBF Takes Principal Park Win

The list of major league baseball players that have sat in a dugout and played on Sec Taylor Field at Principal Park in Des Moines is immense. Thursday members of the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Rockets received that same opportunity as they faced the Woodward-Granger Hawks in the last regular game of the season. EBF took advantage on the opportunity to capture a 3-2 win.

The Home of the Iowa Cubs will host the Iowa High State Baseball Tournament beginning July 20. EBF hopes this was a practice game for them in a quest to return for another game this season.

“You don’t realize how stays in,” said Rocket skipper Tom Hallgren. “It is so much different than in an open field like ours. I think it was good for our guys to play a close game and kind of grind out a win in a situation like that heading into the postseason.”

EBF will have some work to do to get back to Sec Taylor as they open Class 2A district tournament July 10 at Regina High School in Iowa City against the winner of an opening-round game between Pekin and Columbus Junction. EBF is three wins from qualifying for the state baseball tournament and a chance to play at Principal Park.
