County Seal Approved

In a brief discussion the Mahaska County Supervisors approved a new County Seal. The approval came at the request of county auditor Sue Brown. Brown said the state auditor indicated the need to have a seal on election documents versus a person’s name. Individual departments have their own seals, but the state has requested a county seal. The new seal is circular with a standing Chief Mahaska inset atop a map of the county. With little discussion the approval was granted by the supervisors.

Supervisors have decided to create a contract as part of an offer to Tom Flaherty for the new position of county economic director. Board chair Mark Groenendyk said he would like to see a 3-year contract with a review to be conducted by May 1 of each year. No other details of the contract were discussed. It is expected Flaherty may start after the first of July.
