Council Accepts Bids For Sewer Project

NEW SHARON – New Sharon’s city councilors received the bids for the Northeast Sanitary Sewer project. The city received thee bids and accepted the bid from Boomerang Corp. of Anamosa.

Jack Pope of Garden & Associates said the all bids came in over the engineer’s estimate. The estimate had been $428,740, but Pope said bids everywhere were coming in over estimates so there was no need to try to rebid. Boomerang submitted a bid of $ 649,161. Synergy Contracting of Bondurant submitted a bid of $786,273.60 and Graff Excavating in Toledo had a bid of $849,750. The next step will be the issuance of the contract. During the public hearing there were no comments written or verbal.

Brad McMahan spoke to the council about issues at the City Park Building. McMahan has been renovating the kitchen and restrooms. He said he found water damage and removed and replaced eight sheets of steel on the outside of the building. He told councilors the steel ends at bottom of gutter is cut too short, there is no drip edge. He recommended contacting the company that put on the steel and the gutters.
