Committee to appoint new supervisor

A committee composed of the Mahaska County Auditor, Recorder, and Treasurer briefly met on May 22 to decide how to move forward from Mahaska County Supervisor Mark Doland’s resignation. Iowa code spells out two options- appointment or a special election. As Doland’s term was already set to expire at the end of the year and his replacement will be elected in November, the committee opted to go appoint a placeholder.

The committee can appoint any Mahaska County resident who is at least 18 years old. Per the committee, a public notice will be published the week of May 28. The committee will then have from 40 days of June 5 to appoint a replacement.
