City Receives ‘Windfall’ Check from MidAmerican Energy

The City of New Sharon received a check for $50,000 this past week to be used for upgrades to the City Park Building. The funds are courtesy of Mid- American Energy and are related to the current Prairie Wind project. The announcement was made during Wednesday’s city council meeting.

Mayor Dustin Hite said updates to the restrooms at the City Park building would likely be the first project and updates to the kitchen area. MidAmerican was to have a representative at the council meeting, but was unable to attend.

Four building permits were approved following public hearings. No verbal or written comments were made and councilors approved the permits. Gary Playle and Charlotte Lamb requested one for a house addition at 209 N. Lincoln; Dahnovan Builders for a house at 106 N. Park St.; Shane Farnum, 208 E. Cherry, for a garden shed; and Jayme Johnson, 409 N. Elm for a fence. A hearing will be held on Oct. 4, to consider an approval of a building permit for a car port by Phil Griffin at 206 N. Elm.
