Blank Park Zoo Visits New Sharon

More than six dozen kids and adults gathered at the New Sharon City Park building Friday as Samantha Collison brought “wild” animals to show to the crowd. The event was part of the Library Rocks Summer Reading program at Stilwell Library.

The event was originally scheduled for the library, but was switched to the City Park building due to the numbers in attendance.

“I’m just thrilled everybody enjoyed themselves,” said library director Dianne Klinker.

Collison is an education presenter at Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines. She brought four of her friends with her to spend time with the kids. The first was Zubie the parrot, a 23-year-old Senegal parrot. Smiley the Fox Snake, Rachel the ferret, and Bog the alligator brought smiles to the faces of those gathered.

“This is an opportunity for us to share the zoo with those who may not be able to come,” said Collison. “We do 230 of these library programs a year.”
