Another Wall Springs to Life at EBF

MURAL, MURAL ON THE WALL. EBF seniors Bryan Carroll and Samantha Carroll, and art instructor Dora Olson pose with a new design for the science room.

A splash of color has enhanced the science room at Eddyville- Blakesburg-Fremont High School in a big way. Allison Spratt shared a photo this winter, stating what “an amazing mural that the high school art students did in my classroom.” The whole project is actually the result of only two high school students, the Carroll twins –seniors Samantha and Bryan.

Samantha and Bryan are enrolled in Dora Olson’s Studio Art class. Olson states she gives the seniors in this class an assignment that will be uniquely their own. It is a task that they must be intrinsically motivated to do, with no specific guidelines other than they must complete it in one month’s time.

As there had been a request for a mural in the science room, Samantha first headed that direction with her ideas and a drawing, and her brother soon became involved to complete this massive project, requiring out-of-school hours. The composition, the elements and the quote chosen from Bill Nye – the Science Guy, were all the creation of these two artists.
